During a unit about camping, our class made outdoor ovens using pizza boxes, foil, black paper, and Saran Wrap. It took about an hour, but we were able to make S’mores. The class enjoyed the tasty treat!
Happy Mother’s Day
Happy Cinco de Mayo
Cloud-related Sensory Fun
Fun with shaving cream and cloud dough (conditioner & corn starch)
Magic Milk Experiment
During this “Magic Milk” experiment, we used dish soap to make colors “dance” in milk.
☔️ Rain Clouds Experiment 🌧
Happy Mardi Gras Day
In honor of Mardi Gras, our class made and decorated purple, green and gold cupcakes.
Experimenting with Parachutes
After reading a current events article about Tuskegee pilots and how they used parachutes to jump from planes, we did a science experiment of our own. We made parachutes from cups, strings, and plastic bags and dropped them from the second floor. The students had a blast!
Then we had fun with a parachute in our classroom.
Growing the Grinch's Heart ❤️
After reading about the Grinch and how his heart was two sizes too small, he did a science experiment to see if we could grow the Grinch's heart. Several broken balloons later, we were able to grow the Grinch's heart using a balloon (with a red heart on it), baking soda, vinegar, and dish soap.
After reading a current events article about the new Star Wars movie, our class made "galaxy Playdough".
Our Gingerbread House 🏡
🌲 Decorating Our Tree 🌲
Experiments with Ice and Snow
After learning about ice and what makes it melt, the students rescued ocean animals trapped in ice using different materials (i.e. salt, warm water, tongs, etc.)
Making fake snow and having some fun with one of the ingredients...shaving cream!
🇺🇸 Happy Veterans Day 🇺🇸
During this lesson, our class learned who a veteran is, why the holiday is celebrated, and character traits a veteran might have.
We celebrated Halloween a day late and made mummy hot dogs today.
Agility Obstacle Course
This week, our class read a current events article about a Dog Agility Championship. The article discussed how dogs and dog handlers must complete an obstacle course in record time. We decided to do an obstacle course of our own. All of our friends did a great job!
31 Days of Halloween Challenge
During the month of October, our class has been participating in a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) challenge. Each day, the students participate in a Halloween-related activity or experiment. Here are a few we have done so far:
Making Halloween Slime
Static Electricity Dancing Ghosts
Halloween Shooter Toys
Pumpkin Rockets 🚀
🎃 Oozing Pumpkins 🎃
After reading about how to carve pumpkins, our class designed a pumpkin face, gutted a pumpkin, and carved a jack-o-lantern. We also did an experiment called "oozing pumpkin". With a combination of vinegar, dish soap, food coloring, and baking soda, we made our pumpkins ooze a colorful slime.
🍁 Raking Fall Leaves 🍂
During this math lesson, the students "raked" as many leaves as they could in one minute. They then had to count how many leaves they raked, graphed their results, and determined which classmate raked the most leaves.
Fall Farm Fun
Our weekly unit was about Fall Farm Fun. We read about many fun things to do on a farm in the fall, such as pumpkin picking, bobbing for apples, and having three legged races. After reading about fall fun, we had some fall fun of our own. We bobbed for apples, went pumpkin picking outside, had three legged races, and samples some fall treats (i.e. apple cider, candy apples, etc.).
This week, our class learned about "rockers". Rockers are people who paint rocks and leave them in the community for people to find. Rockers leave rocks in parks, playgrounds, and more. We became rockers this week as we painted designs on rocks. The students will be taking the rocks home to hide in the community. They can track where their rock has been by following the social media link on the back of their rock.
